Mid-foot fractures and dislocations are less common but do happen, especially in the feet of athletes resulting in stress fractures. However, Talus fractures are often the result of a traumatic injury, such as a fall or car accident. In both cases, surgery is only necessary if the injury is severe, or the bones are out of place. Especially in the case of a Talus injury, proper healing is critical for the prolonged health of the foot and patient. Surgery helps prevent arthritis, malunion, Osteonecrosis, infection, nonunion, foot deformity, and chronic pain.
